Press bodies demand case against Nadir Khan be withdrawn

The Karachi Press Club has condemned the registration of a case against investigative journalist Nadir Khan, calling it a direct threat to press freedom and freedom of expression.

In its statement, the club's leadership said the action by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency appeared to have been taken without notice or proper inquiry. It described the move as a violation of due legal process and an attempt to silence independent reporting.

The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists-Dastoor also criticised the case, saying it reflected a broader pattern of pressure on journalists. According to the union, the matter relates to a report about a ship at Port Qasim that was allegedly stopped over suspected LPG smuggling.

Both organisations urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and relevant authorities to withdraw the case immediately, warning that such action could deepen tensions between the media and the state at a sensitive time.
