Rupee posts broad gains across major currencies

The Pakistani rupee closed slightly stronger against the US dollar on Thursday, extending its positive run and also gaining against most other major currencies. Market data showed the rupee ending the day at 279.25 versus the dollar.

It also appreciated against the euro, pound sterling, Australian dollar, Malaysian ringgit, Chinese yuan, Canadian dollar and Saudi riyal, while showing a marginal decline against the UAE dirham. The strongest moves came against the pound and euro.

The update reflects improved short-term currency sentiment after a period of uncertainty, although the broader outlook will still depend on external financing conditions, import costs and energy-market pressures.
