PTA asks users to block surprise mobile data charges

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has advised mobile users to activate a free protection feature that stops internet usage once a data bundle is exhausted. The regulator said the step can help consumers avoid unexpected deductions when mobile internet continues at pay-as-you-go rates after package expiry.

According to the advisory, telecom operators already offer a free balance-protection or PayG blocking service. PTA said the feature is intended to improve billing transparency and protect users from unplanned charges that can consume remaining balance quickly.

The regulator also shared activation codes for users on Jazz, Zong, Ufone and Telenor Pakistan. The guidance forms part of PTA's broader consumer-protection push in the telecom sector.
