Pakistan outbound flights plunge nearly 50% amid regional turmoil

Pakistan's international departures have dropped sharply in early March, with outbound flights declining by nearly half as regional instability disrupts aviation routes and travel plans.

Citing Gallup Pakistan Digital Analytics data, Geo News reported that international departures fell from 1,127 flights during February 1-10 to 572 flights during March 1-10. Analysts linked the abrupt contraction to airspace restrictions and operational uncertainty stemming from tensions affecting Iran and parts of the Gulf.

Because Pakistan relies heavily on Middle Eastern transit corridors for international connectivity, the country has been especially exposed to rerouting, cancellations and reduced flight frequency. The disruption has had an immediate impact on overseas travel volumes.

The data also suggests a change in passenger behavior. Travel became more concentrated toward Saudi destinations such as Jeddah and Riyadh, indicating that essential and religious journeys continued while discretionary travel fell back.

The figures underscore how quickly geopolitical shocks can hit Pakistan's aviation sector and reshape travel demand.
