Sindh sets panel to review Christian marriage and divorce laws

The Sindh government has set up a three-member committee to examine possible changes to Christian marriage and divorce laws, with the review taking place during a minority rights meeting led by the chief minister’s adviser on rehabilitation. Officials said the exercise will also consider related shortcomings in minority family-law arrangements.

The move brings renewed focus to long-standing legal provisions that date back to the colonial era and may no longer align with current legal and social standards. Participants in the meeting also discussed inheritance issues and improvements to systems linked to religious registration.

The review is being seen as part of a broader effort to modernise minority rights governance in Sindh and address gaps that affect legal protection and personal status matters for religious communities.
