Pakistani oil tanker reaches home waters after Hormuz transit

A Pakistani oil tanker carrying roughly 80 million litres of crude oil has entered Pakistan's maritime zone after passing through the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened regional tensions. The vessel, MT Karachi, is expected to berth at the Port of Karachi after completing the sensitive leg of its journey.

The report says the tanker became the first Pakistani vessel to make the passage after the strait's closure triggered concerns over energy shipments and maritime security. Iranian authorities reportedly allowed the ship to transit through their territorial waters during the voyage.

Pakistan Navy support was provided during the passage to help secure the route. The cargo had departed from Das Island in the United Arab Emirates on February 28.

Beyond the shipping milestone itself, the development carries broader significance for Pakistan's energy security and regional trade planning, especially at a time when geopolitical tensions are affecting vital oil routes and payment arrangements across the region.
